Don’t forget, the perfect gift on a 5th anniversary is traditionally made from wood!
This is an almost unique chance to get one of the last pieces of a World War II genuine Spitfire propeller, made into a fantastic high-class ballpoint pen finished in quality chrome and gunmetal for a beautiful finish.
I handcraft each pen on my wood lathe and it is finished by hand, smoothing it into a lovely warm finish with shellac and then a coat of carnauba wax.
With the 80th Anniversary of VE Day coming up this May, there are going to be even fewer chances to obtain the rare pieces of propeller that are still around to make these unique and memorable works.
The propellers of the Spitfire eventually later in the war became made from aluminium but then switched back to laminated birch known as 'Jablo' partly because metal was so valuable for the war effort and also because it had the advantage that if the propeller struck the ground it transmitted less shock load to the engine.
The legendary Spitfire is thought by many as the most iconic and famous fighter aircraft ever built, gaining legendary status during the Battle of Britain fought valiantly over the skies of Britain between July and October 1940. Much loved by its pilots, the Spitfire saw service during the whole of the Second World War and still to this day stands as a proud symbol of the RAF, and its brave stance agains invading forces.
There is nothing to say that this particular propeller was not from a Spitfire that fought in the skies over Britain during that period, but of course Spitfires served in many theatres of the war globally, from Europe, the Mediterranean & Africa, and the Far East, and flown by pilots from Britain, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand as well as free forces of occupied lands, such as the free Polish and French pilots.
The pen itself is a high-quality, British-designed and sourced mechanism that takes Parker-type refills, and it comes in a presentation box and velvet sleeve for its protection.
I have only 10 pens available, these will be numbered and are fully certificated by the wood blank supplier, which is a well-known and trusted supplier of many historical artefacts. The pricing will increase as I sell each pen as I'm not sure I can ever get more wood, when it is available it gets more and more expensive. Each pen is unique with its own colour, wood grain and pattern.
Treat someone to a unique present or just treat yourself!
