HMS Victory was started, or ‘laid down’ in 1759, in other words, 266 years ago. This pen is made from wood from this ship, when recommissioning.

The ship was finally floated out in 1765, from Chatham Dockyard in England.

More on the pen! This is a unique and special writing instrument, British designed and engineered with quality fittings, with lovely balance and using Parker type refills. It has a nice twist action to advance and retract the nib, and it’s finished in gunmetal and chrome.

I made this pen in my workshop here in Scotland near Edinburgh, using time-honoured hand-turning techniques on my lathe, then smoothing the wood down to a perfect finish.

Each pen comes complete in a quality presentation box and a complimentary velvet sleeve for the pen.

It is supplied with a certificate of authenticity from the supplier of the wood, and signed by myself.

I only have 3 pieces of wood just now, not sure how much more I can get and at what cost, so please don’t leave it too long!

Back to that amazing ship, it’s still going today after 247 years service, and has been the flagship of the First Sea Lord since October 2012!

It took part in the following sea battles: First & Second Battle of Ushant, 1778 & 81; the Great Siege of Gibraltar 1779-83; Battle of Cape Spartel, 1782; the Battle of the Hyeres Islands 1795; the Battle of Cape St Vincent, 1797; the Trafalgar campaign 1805; and the most famous battle of all, the Battle of Trafalgar of 1805 with Admiral Horatio Nelson, where he died in the cockpit of this very ship. Can you even imagine where this very piece of wood was from on the ship?
